Sock Sack from Becca's Crazy Projects

I wanted a small zippered bag suitable for washing hand knit or machine knit wool socks. I grabbed a fun print and cut two 12.5" squares.
I chose that size for a couple reasons, the most important was that I have pretty big selection of 12" zippers. If you make bags and are looking for a small business solution to zippers I highly recommend ZipIt Zippers on Etsy. Excellent service and selection.
Less than an hour later I had my finished sack. There are some things I would change if I make it again but it was a great ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

My latest pair of machine knit socks were made using Activ yarn I purchased from CSM Supplies. Jamie has so many different yarns and stock changes often. If you are starting out and want great yarn on cones you should check them out.
I added contrast heels and toes to not break up the pattern of the yarn. The solid blue is also from CSM Supplies.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

This collection of mostly blues, greens, and yellow, became a pair of monster socks. Sometimes I pick a color, or collection of colors. Other times I just throw stuff in.
I made sure to match the cuffs, heels, and toes this time.
They turned out great! I just need to finish them.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sunday I sat down with my circular sock machine and cranked out some monster socks. This was as I took the back needles out of work to make the heel. I plopped the little cake I was working from the mini mast into the sock to keep it out of the way and to prevent it tangling while I worked the heel. This isn't an issue when I work the toe because I will only be working with one yarn as I near the toe.
I should have been a little more careful with the green I used for ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

It was time for another pair of Monster Socks. The way to know if they are matching is by looking at the cuffs, heels, and toes. These turned out great! Someday I will open my Etsy shop and sell some more of these. Maybe in the fall. They do make great winter holiday gifts.

Welcome to 2022 from Becca's Crazy Projects

I want to start off the new year with a review of what I did in 2021.
I quilted a total of 76 charity quilts in 2021. That exceeded my personal goal of 52 in a calendar year. This scrappy quilt is just one.
I made so many pairs of socks. These are likely my favorite because I made them using leftovers of Thick Sock from Knitterly Things. And, they are for me. Now that winter has arrived in the northern hemisphere I get to wear my wool socks every day and that's just wonderful!
I bought so much ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last week I made another pair of monster socks. The heel is made by working short rows on half the cylinder needles.
These are still my favorite socks. I love hour I can mix the yarns together and come up with a unique pair every time.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Super quick post so you can get on with your weekend.
Last week I made these fun monster socks using leftover Activ yarn I purchased from CSM Supplies. I've finished them and given them to Darling Husband. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. See you next week!

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Even though it is summer here I keep making socks.
This is the toe on another pair of monster socks. Machine-knit socks use a simple short-row heel and toe.
Every once in a while I get a comment on my sock photos asking why the toes are open, or how someone is supposed to wear these. The simple answer is that these aren't finished.
The next step is where I pick up the live stitches onto two short circular needles and remove the waste yarn. This is very similar to how commercially made socks are finished. Just look at ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

When I make monster socks I use the mini mast to make two row stripes easy. Here is close-up.
I grabbed some blues and made these great monster socks. What are monster socks? That is when I use three, or more, different yarns to make a pair of wonderfully scrappy socks. This pair uses four different yarns including a tweedy blue (Knit Picks Stroll Tweed), a fun stripe (Knit Picks Felici), a second striping yarn (Knit Picks Stroll), and a blue and green ombre (Cascade Heritage Wave). They can out so much better than I imagined.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been cranking up socks for the holidays. This is one of the sock trains I made last week. Four socks knit one-right-after-the-other.
Two pair ready for finishing.
I love these little stacks of socks.
Monday I knit a single after work.
Thursday it found its partner.

I won't be adding more socks to my Etsy shop until 2021. I still have a few pairs ready to ship so order soon to get them by the holidays. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram (@beccascrazyprojects) and my Etsy shop Becca's Crazy Projects to get updates on ...

Etsy Shop Update from Becca's Crazy Projects

I did a big shop update a couple weeks ago and plenty of great things are still available. Socks and knitting project backs for that hand-knitter in your circle.
This one is one of my favorites.
These are lightweight, soft bags that close with a zipper. Wrist strap for easy carrying.
There are also some great quilted bags.
These have a little more substance and so great.
I have three or four of these that are always drifting around with a new project inside.
They aren't really bigger on the inside but I can dream.

Check out socks in ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

This pair was made using the leftovers from a couple of Knit Picks Duos. Both gradients paired nicely with some Uneek Fingering I used to make myself a pair of socks last year. These are just wonderful!
This pair used some different purple yarns from Knit Picks. I really like how these came out.
So no one thinks I save all the matching socks for myself, here is a pair I knit last week using Knit Picks Static (the same fingering base as Stroll). These were a fun surprise and I'm glad I gave the yarn a try. I ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

What it looks like when I'm knitting monster socks. The little ball of yarn on the left is the alternate yarn. The little hank on the right (just above the number 225) is the main yarn. I switch back and forth between the yarns every two rows of plain knitting.
The heels and toes are knit with only the main yarn. This is to ensure I can keep good tension while knitting the short rows for the heel and toe.
No two are the same! I love these more than I should admit. Want to check out the socks ...

Knit Picks from Becca's Crazy Projects

I swear the people that wrote the new Blogger drafting tool had no idea how the old one really worked. So many features I relied on are now gone. Thanks for the "upgrade"

Last weekend I received my latest order from Knit Picks. I should stay away from their website because there are so many good things.
This small box was packed with delightful yarn.
Stroll Tweed was on sale and I have a soft spot for sales. This yarn is as soft as the rest of the Stroll line and perfect for socks, mittens, and gloves.
Then there was ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

What's going on here? The purple is my setup bonnet (used to load onto the needles to start the work), yellow is my waste yarn (usually a cheap acrylic of the same weight as the sock), and the black is the cuff of a monster sock. The hung hem is quick and easy and makes a great cuff. I make the cuffs on both socks in a monster sock pair the same so you can tell which one goes with which, not that it really matters with monster socks.
Those tails will be trimmed when I finish the sock ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last Sunday I attempted to knit a sock to pair with one I had knit earlier in the week. I made it to the toe and realized I had made an error. This little collection of re-wound balls shows how that sock ended up. Sometimes I get more out of my yarn than a single use.
On my next attempt I managed to finish that second sock. I love these scrappy monster socks.

If you would like a pair of socks machine knit just for you, stop by my Etsy shop and send me a note. I'm sure we ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

This is where my alternate ball of yarn rests while I work the heel on a monster sock. This little epiphany has really helped me knit the heel faster and more accurately. This is possible because the yarn guide for the mini mast has slots for the entire yarn path.
What makes a pair of monster socks a pair? Usually the only thing that matches is the cuff. Otherwise, they are made with one to two row stripes of scraps of Knit Picks Felici in whatever color I happen to grab. No two socks are alike.
Sunday mornings, after we ...
